Well for starters my name is Emma Voykhanskaya, and I am a very independent, caring, loving, and strong-willed girl. I am a sophomore in high school and I come from a very sports-orientated family. I have a cousin who is good at hockey, a sister who used to dance and do karate, a mom who was a fencer, a dad who would play soccer every day as well as my grandpa when he was younger. Ever since I was little I would love to run around and race all my family members. Around elementary school, I was trying out all sorts of stuff. I was on a swim team, had vocal lessons, piano lessons, guitar lessons, dance lessons, and tennis lessons. Swim meets used to be stressful. I wasn't the best swimmer, but I was always determined to try my best to come out first. It was a competitive nature within me. It was nerve-wracking knowing there was a whole stadium watching. However, this motivated me to try my best to prove to everybody that I wasn't just a little girl. During middle school, I had the opportunity to explore other sports such as volleyball, American football, basketball, soccer, and handball. I’d play these sports every day either during or after school. In 7th grade, I decided to try out for my school's track team. Being on the track team it came with a lot of responsibilities. I would wake up an hour earlier to get to school for practice. I remember there was a track meet and I was beyond determined to bring home first place medals. After the track meet was over I was instantly known as the fastest girl. I had first-place medals for the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the relay with my fellow team members. I got to go camping in the summer of 2017 and this introduced me to many more sports like ultimate frisbee, water polo, ping pong, etc. Throughout all of these years though, I never stopped playing tennis. My grades during elementary and middle school were always good. I was part of honors classes and the national honors society. I would also frequently be awarded student of the month. Once high school started, I kind of went a bit downhill. My grades weren't the highest they could be but at the end of the day, I would still make sure to get all my work done. They were lower than usual, around average. I was confused as to what was going on with me. I was very lost overall. I had many fake friends who were very hard for me because I am a very extroverted and outgoing person. I was also really confused as to what I wanted to be in the future. I knew it was too late to make a name for myself in tennis. During high school, I had to focus more on my grades rather than competing in tournaments. That was a hard decision I made on my own, knowing school had to be a priority. I decided it was best for me to work hard now, that way I can receive a scholarship and be part of a college tennis team. I had always wanted to be a lawyer. I loved to debate, defend my people, and prove my point. That was freshman year. I’ll be going into my Junior year of high school soon and I realize that I want to be a criminologist. I took a Forensics Science class during tenth grade, and it was one of the only classes that genuinely had my undivided attention. I loved the idea of studying crime, solving a murder, etc. I love being hands-on and disentangling a problem that doesn't make sense. Once there was a scenario where my best friend and I had to figure out who was lying and who was telling the truth. I took it upon myself to speak to him/her and shortly after I realized nothing he/she said was adding up. I’ve also always had a passion for writing. I love to write on topics that I feel passionately about. This is what led to my decision to start this blog.
